YounYoung Park is a composer, writer, and lyricist specializing in musical theatre.
She has worked on productions across the US, UK, Singapore, and South Korea.
Her major works include Once Upon a Time in Narcissia (co-written with Susannah Pearse; winner of the
CJ Musical Showcase Award, Honorable Mention at the Stiles & Drewe Best New Song Competition,
finalist for the Stiles & Drewe Mentorship Award), Bike Shop (music; produced at Theatre for the New City),
The Emperor’s Quest (Music and Co-book; winner of the Judges’ Discretionary Award at the MTM:UK Musical Theatre Awards), Friends (music; performed at Busan Cinema Center),Shooting Star (book, lyrics, part of the music; commissioned by Sejong Center, Sejong M Theatre, Mapo Arts Center, and other venues), an animated musical film Princess Aya (lyrics: distributed by CGV), Rapunzel (music, co-book; commissioned by Singapore Repertory Theatre), Li-Tsin (book, music, lyrics, commissioned by CJ Culture Foundation, staged at CJ Azit Theater), Othello and Iago (music and lyrics; National Theater of Korea), How Grandmother Spider Stole the Sun (music and co-book; commissioned and published by Mondo Publishing New York, performed in schools across the UK, US, and South Korea).
Education
YounYoung received her MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, AA in Applied Music Composition from Seoul Institute of the Arts and BA in Psychology from Ewha Womans University. Additionally, she took courses in K-drama writing at the Korea TV & Radio Writers Association Academy.
Teaching & Workshops
She has taught musical theatre, music composition and writing at Seoul Institute of the Arts, Chung-Ang University, Inha University, and graduate courses at Dankook University and Kookmin University. She has also conducted masterclasses and workshops at Lincoln University and Wolverhampton University in the UK, NYU’s Asia campus in Singapore, and various universities in Korea, including Andong University, Joongang University, Seoul Institute of the Arts, and Dongduk Women’s University. Additionally, she has led workshops for younger students at Mayfield Primary School in Cambridge, UK.
